Playing with Intersubjective, Self and Relational Constructs

with Shelley Doctors, PhD, Janna Sandmeyer, PhD, and Jackie Gotthold, PsyD reading a paper by Donna Orange, PhD, PsyD

This ICP+P Friday panel includes three talks from the 2015 International Association of Psychoanalytic Self Psychology (IAPSP) conference: Shelley Doctors presenting, Janna Sandmeyer discussing, and Jackie Gotthold delivering Donna Orange’s paper. The panel addresses some of the most compelling current issues in psychoanalytic thinking, including concepts from contemporary self psychology, intersubjectivity, and relational psychoanalysis. These ideas have enormous implications for understanding curative processes and facilitating productive clinical engagement. Topics such as selfobject experience and working through intersubjective enactments (disruption and repair) will be discussed, among others.

The December 4th event is designed to function like a pre-conference workshop: introducing participants to Shelley’s ideas, the ICP+P manner of talking about theoretical and clinical ideas, and the benefits of attending ICP+P and IAPSP conferences. This pre-conference is open to all ICP+P members and the mental health community at large. We welcome and encourage new audiences, especially those unfamiliar with ICP+P or IAPSP, and we hope people will attend both the Friday and Saturday programs. We are pleased to collaborate with IAPSP in offering this pre-conference session.

There will be ample time for audience engagement.
